Description
About the RoleLanguage assessment products are increasingly expected to demonstrate their value through measurable impact on learners, teachers, institutions, and societies. OUP ELT is seeking a Senior Assessment Impact Research Manager to lead the design and delivery of rigorous impact studies that showcase how our assessment products support global recognition and drive educational and social outcomes.
This role requires expertise in both assessment research and impact evaluation. You will be responsible for designing and conducting impact research that demonstrates the effectiveness of our language assessment products and services in delivering policy intentions, generating insights that inform product development, marketing, and strategic decision-making.
Working within the ELT Assessment Research team and collaborating with product developers, and commercial stakeholders, you will establish robust methodologies for evaluating how features of our assessments (such as task design, diagnostic reports, assessment data, and feedback mechanisms) contribute to improved learner outcomes. You will develop and refine evidence-based approaches to understanding the impact of our assessments beyond the test scores themselves.
The role requires expertise in impact evaluation: measuring the change that educational products can deliver. You will communicate complex research findings to diverse audiences and build capability across the organisation in understanding and applying impact research principles specific to our assessment products.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have/be:
Essential:

- Proven experience designing and conducting educational research or impact evaluations, ideally within language learning or assessment contexts
- Strong understanding of assessment principles including validity, reliability, fairness, and practicality
- Research methodology expertise across qualitative and quantitative methods, including data analysis, statistical techniques, and evaluation frameworks
- Excellent communication skills - ability to translate complex research findings into accessible insights for diverse audiences including educators, commercial teams, and senior leadership
- Project management capabilities - able to manage multiple studies simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budget constraints
- Stakeholder engagement skills - experience working with educators, institutions, or other educational stakeholders to gather data and insights
- Critical thinking - ability to determine appropriate research approaches and distinguish between assessment validation and impact evaluation needs
- Experience with language assessment or English language teaching contexts
- Knowledge of educational measurement and psychometric principles
- Familiarity with the Oxford Impact Framework or similar impact evaluation frameworks
- Experience analysing assessment data and diagnostic outputs (e.g., dashboards, reports) in educational contexts
