DescriptionWe have an incredible opportunity to join us as a Policy and Research Manager with the Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement, our in-house think tank.
Job Type: Permanent
Location: This role is based in our London office, with time spent in the office and at home.
Flexible working: All of our roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

Salary and benefits: £50,000 to £60,000 plus an indicative bonus range of 16% - 32%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more

The role
The Standard Life Centre is a think tank which aims to help everyone achieve long-term financial security. We use research to provoke fresh debate, drive action and influence real change. We focus on addressing the pension saving gap, helping people with retirement decisions, and supporting careers that suit people across their lives. This role will report to the Centre’s Head of Research, Analysis and Policy.
You will manage a portfolio of research and policy projects. This will involve engaging with, commissioning and managing external providers as well as carrying out in-house analysis. You will create purposeful and innovative policy solutions aimed at government, industry and individuals. You will communicate using evidence and insights to share key messages to internal and external audiences, including policy makers, practitioners and media.
What are we looking for?
- Experience of public policy and research relating to pensions adequacy, retirement income decision-making, and long-term saving. Knowledge of our other policy areas such as longer working lives, labour market economics, social security, careers advice, retirement transitions would also be an advantage.
- Impactful research delivery. Someone who has run, commissioned or delivered research projects, across a range of methodologies. This could be in a social research, government, think tank, industry or academic setting.
- In-house analysis using a range of data sources. These may include ONS datasets, labour market statistics, benefits and welfare, social attitudes, or others. We are a mixed methods team, using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Experience of undertaking quantitative research methods in a statistical or economics setting would be an advantage.
- Ambitious policy development. Ability to develop evidence-based and impactful public policy and industry solutions. Selecting evidence, identifying trends, understanding theories of change, and designing policies to help people achieve financial security. Experience of working in a policy, public affairs or research function would be an advantage.
- Effective communication of research and policy. Including data visualisations, infographics, written material, as well as impactful presenting
