The General Medical Council’s Education and Standards directorate is seeking an Education Policy and Research Officer to help deliver our work in improving postgraduate training for doctors.

The GMC helps to protect patients and support doctors in the UK by setting and assuring standards for students and doctors throughout their training and in clinical practice. We also do this by setting and assuring standards for organisations who provide medical education and training.

In this role, you will work closely with data analysts, social researchers and policy experts to support the delivery of evidence-based reports to help ensure doctors receive training that meets our standards and that patients receive good quality, safe care. A key part of this role is the external communication of the reports you produce, so you will also work with communication colleagues to develop campaigns to support the promotion of your work.

To be a success in this role you will require enthusiasm, flexibility and initiative, and the ability to work well with others. Excellent communication and organisational skills are a must, as is an aptitude for solving problems. You will also need experience of data sourcing and a broad understanding of social research and analysis methods that contribute to evidence-based outcomes.  You will have expertise in writing engaging reports in a corporate style. The work is interesting and varied and you must also be happy to get involved in routine aspects as well. Above all, we expect a commitment to the values of an organisation that is focused on patient safety and improving training environments for doctors.

We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to a broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply. The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750).

Benefits

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly environment, you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression.  We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.

The GMC is happy to support a range of flexible working options. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy.

Induction

You will commence working from home with a supportive induction package, with a plan to include office working days too at a later date.

Pools

We are currently advertising for one permanent position in the Education Survey Team. If further vacancies arise within the next 6 months, candidates appointable in this recruitment will be in an appointable pool of candidates and may fill these vacancies.

You may be considered for a 12-month fixed term contract for the post of Survey Project officer. Further details of this opportunity will be discussed at a later stage.
